2/3. I liked this photo because none of the giraffes
overlap and it makes for a clean composition.



1. The photographer chose to shoot photos of these animals in Africa because of how iconic they are.  He had visited Africa many times, and noticed the deforestation, population pressure, and poaching.  He never used a telephoto lens, so he was close to the animals.

4. Brandt avoided mergers when taking this photo so that none of the giraffes are behind each other.

5. He uses a medium-format film camera, which gives the desired black and white look, and he doesn't use telephoto lenses so he has to get closer to the animals.

6. He wants to stop the poaching problem in East Africa.

7. It will bring awareness to people that these
animals are being poached.

8. "My images are unashamedly idyllic and romantic, a kind of enchanted Africa. They're my elegy to a world that is steadily, tragically vanishing."
